At Doncaster, Graham Lockwood, Dave Elcock, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie clawed their way back from 7-6 down after eight ends to seize an 18-7 lead which underpinned a 24-12 conquest.

In the second home game, Kath Hardcastle, Peggy Walker, Sally Domville and skip Majorie Watson won nine of the first ten ends to lead 14-1 against Carol Instone’s rink of Joan Jackson, Pauline Armitage and Helen Wood. It was a lead that was sternly defended en route to a 19-11 New Earswick success.

But there were two defeats at York’s Thanet Road, where the visiting rink of Doramy Bellwood, Jackie Toms, Carol Williams and Pat Walker rallied from a 9-0 deficit to trail 18-17 before the York quartet of June Clayton, Janet McManus, Betty Richardson and Helen Walker notched a three and a five for a 26-17 win.

The rink of Moira Ellis, Maureen Wilson, Monica Morgan and Moyra Headley succumbed 55-4 to a strong Sue Allen-skipped rink of Hayley Macdonald, Pat Potter and Sheila Turpin.
