ST George’s Day rests foursquare in the gaze of York golfer Simon Dyson.

The 38-year-old, whose first quarter of the year has been dogged by inconsistent form and injury, has suffered a fresh setback.

Dyson has slipped a tendon in his left wrist, which not only stymied his scheduled return to the European Tour tomorrow, but will sideline him until the China Open which starts on April 23, St George’s Day.

Due to jet out yesterday to the Trophee Hassan II tournament in Morocco, Dyson was playing his last practice round with friends, among them Paul Scholes, the former Manchester United and England midfielder. As he attempted to play out of the rough Dyson’s left wrist was jolted, forcing him to abandon the round at the sixth hole.

A slipped tendon has been diagnosed by a specialist prompting the world number 161 to tweet: “Looks like I’ve got 3 weeks off til china to prepare..#rest #rest #rest.”

The injury is on the same hand which forced his withdrawal from a tournament at Gleneagles two years ago. He was then out for three weeks, leaving Dyson to ponder whether this injury is a legacy of that setback.

Dyson’s world ranking has dipped from 117 to 161 in 2015. Provided the injury heals in time, Dyson can now expect to return in the China Open in Shanghai.
