JASON GILLESPIE is on the verge of combining a coaching job share with Yorkshire and Big Bash Twenty20 team Adelaide Strikers.

The White Rose county’s first-team coach will almost certainly be confirmed as the Strikers new coach before the end of the ongoing champion county fixture in Abu Dhabi.

Gillespie played for South Australia and still has a house in Adelaide.

The South Australian Cricket Association yesterday announced that they were parting company with Darren Berry, who has combined coaching the Strikers with state team South Australia.

Now that the roles will be split, it has paved the way for 39-year-old Gillespie to coach Yorkshire in an English summer and the Strikers in an Australian summer.

SACA chief executive Keith Bradshaw said: “Jason is committed to Yorkshire for their summer. We are in discussions with Jason on the Strikers side. Should we conclude that negotiation, I would be absolutely thrilled.

“His record since he has been at Yorkshire has been outstanding.”
