YORK RUFC dropped out of the top three in Yorkshire One after a 24-17 home defeat by Hullensians.

The Clifton Parkers slipped to fourth in the table following their defeat by the lowly visitors and Middlesbrough’s win at Wath.

The visitors had the better of the opening stages, but missed three penalty attempts and failed to capitalise on a yellow card for York’s Toby Atkin.

On 20 minutes York scored a try against the run of play, with full-back Charlie Nicholson feeding wing Shane Goulding, who ran 30 yards unopposed to touch down.

Hullensians immediately brought play into the York half and, after a period of play which went through several phases, they crossed the line for a converted try.

York pressure led to a sin-binning for the visitors, but the home side were unable to break through before half-time.

At the start of the second half, York quickly took advantage of some poor Hullensians tackling when Josh Britland broke 40 yards to score wide out for a 10-7 lead.

The visitors dominated the next 20 minutes and scored two unconverted tries, while York were unable to take advantage of two yellow cards for Hullensians.

With the Hull side back to 15 men, a converted try left York 14 points adrift at 24-10.

A brilliant individual effort by fly-half George Davies, which he also converted, was not enough to haul York back into the game.

Selby literally threw the game away as they lost 13-11 to North Ribblesdale in Yorkshire One.

The Swans were leading 11-10 in time added on when they tossed the ball into touch, expecting the referee to signal full time.

However, a penalty was awarded to the visitors and substitute Stephen Moon converted the kick to give Ribblesdale the win.

The two sides missed penalty attempts and try-scoring chances in a scoreless first half, and the second half started well for Selby.

A mistake in the Ribblesdale defence gifted Selby possession and the ball was spread wide for centre Peter Turner to gallop over for the try.

Ribblesdale were held up over the Selby line after 58 minutes and then equalised two minutes later with an unconverted try from full-back Adam Waites. Selby’s kick-off sailed into touch and from the scrum number eight Michael Carr was bundled over for a try.

On rare incursions into the Ribb half, Selby were awarded penalties after 66 and 75 minutes and Josh Cruise converted both to put Selby back in front before disaster struck on the last play.

Malton & Norton suffered a second defeat in three Yorkshire One games as they lost 30-27 at Yarnbury.

Injuries forced Malt coach Chris Creber out of retirement, while skipper Sam Triffitt was injured in the warm up, leading to a late reshuffle.

The home side took advantage of the situation with a try after three minutes, but Malton quickly hit back when number eight Ali Coe and scrum-half Paul Angus combined to send wing Tom Newitt over the first of his quartet of tries.

On 15 minutes, Coe took a quick tap and found full-back Sizwe Zondo in support, and he put Newitt over again.

A pair of tries sent Yarnbury into the break leading 15-10 and, after hooker Jim Thornton was shown a yellow card, the hosts were awarded a penalty try, which was converted.

A penalty made it 25-10, but when Thornton returned to the action the pack drove forward for Coe to touch down. Ian Cooke converted.

A catch and drive try extended Yarnbury’s lead and they held on despite two late tries from Newitt.
