NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC maintained their unbeaten home record with a 28-10 victory over St Joseph’s in Pennine League Championship One.

The All Blacks took the lead after seven minutes at White Rose Avenue when Sean Malarkey crossed, with Tom Holmes converting.

The home side forged further ahead when Liam Gargan crossed after solid build-up play and he converted his own score.

Just before half-time, player-coach Jack Stearman powered over and Gargan converted for an 18-0 lead.

St Joseph’s hit back with a converted try, but All Blacks responded when Gargan crossed for his second touch down having backed up a Jack Hodgson break. Gargan again converted.

The All Blacks sealed victory when Jack Carling crossed for an unconverted try, although St Joseph’s had the final say with an unconverted try in the last minute.

The All Blacks man of the match was Reece Blake, and he was backed up by Gargan and Stearman.

Sherburn Bears saw their slim division four hopes ended with a 30-0 defeat against Crofton Cougars.

Sherburn were again light on numbers and struggled to field a 17-man line-up with absence and injury testing the squad to the limit.

The best player for the Bears on a disappointing afternoon was Elmet Driver Training man of the match Rhys Hughes.

The prop was the stand out forward for the home side, with and without the ball, causing constant problems for the visitors.

Second place went to hard-working captain and second rower Ray Boyes, whose crunching tackles and strong running were excellent.

Third place went to young back rower Jack Charlesworth, who worked hard in attack and defence.

In Pennine League division four, Selby Warriors eased to a 32-12 conquest over visitors Emley Moor.
