HIGHWORTH TOWN have warned Tadcaster Albion they are in a false league position ahead of the duo’s FA Vase quarter-final clash.

The Wiltshire outfit are only eighth in the Hellenic Premier League and were given a 4-1 dusting at home by Flackwell Heath on their most recent outing.

But club chiefs rested eight players from the side that is expected to line up against the Brewers tomorrow and, fighting for trophies on various fronts, secretary Fraser Haines says the Vase has been made a top priority.

“We have never reached this stage before - usually we go out in the second or third round. It is definitely the biggest game we have ever had,” he said.

“Swindon are away this weekend so we are expecting a big crowd.

“We have been caught up so much in the Vase and in the county cup and challenge cup that we feel our league position is a bit false.

“We’ve got a squad of about 16 or 17 and some good players but last weekend we rested eight players and lost 4-1.

“They will all start on Saturday and, hopefully, they will be fresh. It doesn’t always work like that but we did it in the last round.”

Much of Highworth’s plan will rest on 30-goal striker Terry Bohane and both sides will look to refrain from a direct style - preferring to pass the ball and work opportunities.

Haines added: “We are not direct. In the Hellenic League most sides like to play and pass and like to play football.

“Terry has got 30 goals this year and is a good player.

“He could probably be at a higher level but he is a bit of a clubman. He has been in the Southern League but has come back to us.”

Asked what it would mean to make the last four of the Vase, Haines said: “I can’t describe it. It would be amazing.

“We are not a big club. Our crowds are probably 80 or 90. We are a little town of 11,000 - seven miles from Swindon - and we are a local side.

“I can’t remember the last team from round here that got this far and it would be massive."
