SHERBURN Bears ARLC were 22-6 winners at Farnley Falcons in Pennine League division four.

Farnley’s pitch was out of action so West Leeds Eagles staged the game and Sherburn made light of a heavy surface to put the home side under pressure.

First-half tries came from Layton Orford, Bryn Watson and full-back Ben Pugh, while Bears loose forward Johnboy Fenwick added a second-half touch down.

Scrum-half Connor Jordan kicked three conversions.

The Elmet Driver Training man of the match was Ray Boyes, the Bears captain launching into a series of bone-crunching tackles.

Second place went to hooker Shaun Crossland, whose distribution from dummy half kept the Bears on the front foot.

Selby Warriors were handed a 30-0 walkover win by visitors West Bowling ‘A’.

New Earswick All Blacks remain second in Championship One after an 18-10 defeat at Allerton Bywater.

Fourth-placed Allerton took the lead after 14 minutes with a converted try, but the All Blacks hit back when Adam Kirby crossed for an unconverted try.

The home Allerton extended their advantage with an unconverted try to lead 10-4 at half-time.

New Earswick bounced back early in the second half, levelling the scores when Dean Smith crossed for a try and Tom Holmes converted.

However, Allerton sealed victory with two unconverted tries late on in the match, consigning the All Blacks to their fifth defeat in 12 games.

The All Blacks man of the match was Jack Hodgson, and he was backed up well by Jack Carling and Tom Barron.
