SUBSTITUTE Calum Ward scored a late match-winning penalty with his first touch as Tadcaster Albion beat Maltby Main 3-2 in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

The Brewers twice had to come from behind at Maltby, with first Lewis Clarkson and then substitute Danny Gray levelling before Ward’s spot kick extended the leaders’ advantage at the top of the table to six points.

Main went in front on 33 minutes through Brian Cusworth and although former Bradford City striker Clarkson netted four minutes later, the hosts led 2-1 at the break thanks to Sam Forster’s 43rd-minute goal.

Gray levelled on 80 minutes before Ward’s decisive last minute penalty.

Albion manager Paul Marshall said: “We’ve got great character and we showed it again to keep going. It is about points now and not about performances any more.”

Two goals in four second-half minutes put paid to Pickering Town at Barton Town Old Boys.

Barton’s Danny Chambers struck on 53 minutes and then Scott Phillips doubled the advantage to sink the Pikes.

Selby Town made it a hat-trick of wins in a week in division one as they beat Winterton Rangers 2-0 at Flaxley Road.

Dane Mortimer netted a minute before the break and Chris Jackson got the second eight minutes after interval as the Robins backed up their 6-1 midweek win over Lincoln Moorlands and the previous Saturday’s 1-0 success at Hall Road Rangers.

Knaresborough Town drew 0-0 at Bottesford Town.

Harrogate Town’s 4-1 victory over Chorley in Conference North was overshadowed by an horrific injury to home midfielder Andy Gascoigne.

Gascoigne put Harrogate 1-0 up at Wetherby Road, scoring from the penalty spot after nine minutes before suffered a double leg break in a tackle that resulted in a red card for Andy Teague.

Dan Clayton made it 2-0 to the hosts, heading in a corner in the 24th minute.

Chorley pulled a goal back on 54 minutes, but Jack Emmett got the third Town goal three minutes later and then Jordan Thewlis added a fourth from the penalty spot on 70 minutes.

Fourth-placed Scarborough Athletic were 1-0 winners at Clitheroe in Evo-Stik League division one north.

Alex Metcalfe was the match-winner with a 42nd minute goal.

Tonight, Harrogate Railway Athletic host Prescot Cables in division one north.
