A BONUS-POINT victory at Heath helped York RUFC to strengthen their grip on third place in Yorkshire One.

The Clifton Parkers scored four tries in winning 27-13 at Heath, while chasing Yarnbury were humbled 22-0 at Bridlington.

York appeared to have made an early breakthrough when Eddie Bradshaw burst through a ruck and headed for the try line, but the referee brought play back for a knock on. While the visitors had the majority of the openings, Heath put the first points on the board with a penalty.

York broke into the Heath half from a turnover and Billy Cakaunitabua and Dave Bates forced the defence to concede a lineout in their own 22.

Cakaunitabua took a quick lineout to Bates, who crashed over the line for an unconverted try.

Veteran winger Cakaunitabua claimed the second touch down after neat driving play by Darren Rutherford and a strong catch and run by Charlie Nicholson.

York were pinned back after losing Marcus Britland to the sin bin and Heath scored a converted try to tie the scores at 10-10.

However, the visitors forged ahead again before the break, taking the ball from within their own half, through multiple phases for Bates to storm through for his second score. George Davis converted.

Heath could only add a penalty in the second half, while York stole Heath ball and drove forward at a lineout, forcing the hosts to concede a penalty that Davis converted for a 20-13 lead.

A catch and drive from a lineout created the opportunity for a drive to the line and Rutherford crossed for the try, with Davis converting.

Selby turned in a below par performance as they lost 17-6 at Hullensians.

The Swans’ cause was not helped by two yellow cards, with Hullensians taking full advantage of the second by scoring the only try of the game in the 52nd minute.

The visitors took the lead in the first minute, fly-half Josh Cruise kicking a penalty after Hullensians were caught offside.

French full-back Etienne Faucher put the hosts level with a penalty, but Selby were denied a possible penalty try when Hullensians flanker Ollie Dynan was sin-binned for a high tackle near the line on winger Sam Harrison.

Selby prop Robert Bourke was then yellow-carded for foul play and Faucher kicked the penalty for a 6-3 lead.

Five minutes into the second half, Selby second row James Coventry was yellow-carded and Jason Conroy quickly bagged a try from a Hullensians catch and drive.

Cruise dragged Selby back into the game with a magnificent 48- metre penalty after 61 minutes, but indiscipline by Selby in the 64th and 71st minutes gifted Faucher a further two penalties.

POCKLINGTON RUFC ran out 35-24 winners at home to Northern to move up to sixth in the North One East table.

Teenage fly-half Dan Elliot twice put Pocklington ahead in the first quarter with straightforward penalties, but play was littered with handling errors and each time Northern levelled the scores.

The visitors went ahead with their third penalty and added a try from a five-metre scrum to lead 14-6 going into the last minute of the first half.

However, Pocklington finally used their forward strength and prop Dave Birch scored from a lineout catch and drive, with Elliot converting with the last kick of the half.

Pock took control at the start of the second period with two more tries in quick succession. Northern illegally halted another home lineout drive and had a man sent to the sin-bin. Pock opted for a scrum and shunted the Northern pack over their own line.

Number eight Matt Davies was poised to score as the referee awarded a penalty try, which Elliot converted.

Pock then raided again and scrum-half Matt White sent full-back Jack Fletcher over in the corner. Elliot converted from the touchline.

The hosts again let Northern off the hook, the visitors capitalising on home errors to kick a penalty then grab a converted try from another retreating five-metre scrum. With the margin reduced to 28-24, the game was back in the melting pot.

However, Pock launched some incisive attacks in the closing stages, one taking the ball to within two metres of the visiting line, where Tim Nixon came off his wing to acting half to twist over for a try, which Elliot goaled.
