YORK City boss Russ Wilcox is waiting to learn whether Diego De Girolamo's first senior goal for Sheffield United could lessen the chance of him returning to Bootham Crescent on loan.

De Girolamo netted on 68 minutes to earn the Blades a replay following a 1-1 FA Cup fourth round draw at Preston.

That match will now be played at Bramall Lane next month with the Italian under-20 international, who scored four goals in eight outings for City, unlikely to be available for a third loan spell until at least after then.

Wilcox is also aware that the landscape could have changed following the 19-year-old striker's goal at Deepdale.

The City boss said: "The fact that Diego scored and they have got a replay probably means that he will stay there at the moment. Scoring might also change things totally and they might want him for the rest of the season because we have to respect he's their player.

"But I won't know what the situation is until I have spoken to (Sheffield United manager) Nigel (Clough) again."
