SELBY TOWN have lost their two leading scorers - but boss Dave Ricardo is more concerned about keeping a clean sheet.

Danny Gray departed the Robins to return to Tadcaster Albion and he was quickly followed out of the door at the Northern Counties East League division one club by Ryan Robinson, who has left for personal reasons.

The pair had scored 18 of the club's 54 goals this season but Ricardo believes the prolific Matty Start, who has already netted eight times, can more than fill the gap as Selby go to Knaresborough Town tomorrow.

And, with Selby having shipped 40 goals in their 20 league games, he believes he has bigger concerns as he bids to improve the club's 13th place league position.

"It's not ideal," Ricardo said of the pair's departure. "We wish Danny all the best and hope he is a success at Tadcaster. He only scored in four games for us but he is a presence.

"We have also lost Ryan. He's not enjoying it and has left for personal reasons. We've lost 18 goals but Ryan only scored two in the last 13 games.

"We have got young Matty Start on eight goals but he has only had 12 starts. The issues aren't in front of goal so much. It is keeping clean sheets.

"Knaresborough will give us a good game and a 1-0 win would do me. The most frustrating thing from our last game - a 1-1 draw with Dronfield - was that we weren't able to keep a clean sheet."

Ricardo's only other squad concern is the absence of Richard Medcalf, who is serving a suspension.

Pickering Town chief Tony Hackworth is looking for a response from his new charges as they host Parkgate in the NCEL premier division.

Hackworth's men have suffered heavy defeats in their last two matches - 4-1 at Albion Sports and 6-2 to Cleethorpes - and he has set his squad a target over the next three encounters.

His side haven't played for two weeks but, for the new man at the helm at the Recreation Ground, that has been a blessing.

"We had quite a few injuries out of the Cleethorpes game and quite a few were struggling during the game," said Hackworth.

"Everyone is now fit and raring to go. I am looking for a response. We have had some good training sessions and we have got some winnable fixtures over the next couple of games. I have set the players a target."

Hackworth will be without goalkeeper Toby Wells, who was sent off against Cleethorpes, while he has dipped into the transfer market to sign young attacking midfielder Regan Fish.

"He comes from a good background having been at Leeds and Rotherham," he said of his new recruit. "I have spoken to him several times and he is a great lad.

"We are delighted to have him on board. He just wants to come and play and he has got a great attitude."
