ACOMB 'A' kept up their impressive form in the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 5-2 win at Heworth 'A'.

Acomb's Dan Potter (31 break) beat Adam Scaife in the opening frame, only for Heworth skipper Steve Burdett to come from 21 behind to beat Richard Lillie by a point.

Keith Thornhill kept up his unbeaten run with a solid win over Clive Whyte, and Nick Marchant won a black ball decider against Gary Douglas.

This was followed by Phil Carlton defeating Nick Dyson to give Acomb a 4-1 lead before Jordan Worobec pulled one back with a win which included a 31 break.

The final frame was a tight affair until James Kilmartin went in-off the pink, leaving Mick Borg to pot pink and black for the match.

Malton 'A' got back to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Fulford 'A' with an outstanding performance from Simon Weatherill.

Weatherill fought back from 60 behind to defeat Jamie Husband on the black, with his win including a well constructed 56 break.

However, Fulford had already gone two frames up, with Andy Marshall and Sam Wass beating Dominic Spiteri and Peter Reeves respectively.

Malton then rattled off the remaining four frames with comfortable wins for Steve Beal over Jim Lee, Phil Hart against Dollin Mercer and Dan Pawson over Sam England.

The only resistance for Fulford came from captain Alan Reed, who had the game won but, on potting the pink, went in-off leaving Roger Ward to pot the last two balls to secure victory.

Fulford 'B' ran out 5-2 winners over Bootham 'A', with Bob Smith, Andy Hurley, Andy Ogley, Jim Rollinson and Arthur Pegden successful.

They nearly completed a whitewash as the other two frames went to black ball finishes, but Mark Darley and Tim Fillingham managed to defeat Dean Smith and Nigel Smith to make the score more respectable for Bootham.

The clash of the 'B' teams saw Acomb 'B' continue their good start to the season with a 6-1 triumph over Heworth 'B'.

They lost only the first game as Martin Robinson beat Kevin Ventress before wins for Jeff Winter, Nick Goodacre, John Ashwell (21 break), Steve Rodgers, Adam Wade and Andy Stone saw them home.

At the half way stage of the season, Acomb 'A' have opened up a seven-point lead on second-placed Heworth 'A'.

One point behind Heworth are Bootham 'B', Fulford 'A' and Acomb 'B', but Malton are only a point further back with a game in hand.

The leader in the Worthington player of the year award race is Acomb's Thornhill on seven wins from seven matches.

He is closely followed by Borg on seven wins from eight matches, with Beal and Heworth 'B's Martin Johnson on six victories each.

Weatherill's 56 break puts him third in the Pasema Paving highest break standings, behind Whyte's 68 and Lee Taylor's 58.
