CITY of York Hockey Club are hoping to make 2015 a champion year, The top four City of York men's sides are aiming for promotion, with the first team and fourth team topping their divisions heading into the Christmas break.

The first team are yet to taste defeat in North League division one and are primed for an immediate return to the premier division following last season's relegation.

Their impressive record reads ten wins and two draws from 12 games so far, with the side also averaging more than five goals per game.

They have hit double figures twice, with 10-5 and 11-1 victories over Crewe Vagrants I and Preston II respectively.

With the top two sides being promoted, City of York are ten points clear of third-placed Newcastle University and five points ahead of Sheffield University Bankers in second. Both of their rivals have a game in hand.

The firsts resume their campaign on January 10 at home to sixth-placed Neston South Wirral, aiming for maximum points after drawing 2-2 at Neston in October.

The standout side in the club is the fourth team, who have a perfect record of 12 wins from 12 games in Yorkshire League division three.

That incredible sequence of victories leaves them seven points clear of York University II in second, with two games in hand over their student rivals.

The third team also harbour promotion hopes in Yorkshire League division two.

They head into the New Year as one of five teams still in the mix and with games in hand on their rivals after their last three scheduled games before Christmas were postponed.

The second string have an outside chance of challenging in the Yorkshire League premier division, provided they get off to a quick start in 2015.

The top two teams in the division are ineligible for promotion to the North League as they are third teams.

A spokesman said: "City of York are hoping to celebrate multiple successes across their men's sides in 2015, with two of the top four teams sitting pretty at the top of their respective divisions.

"The remaining sides all sit in lower mid-table in their respective divisions, and will be hoping to consolidate and avoid being dragged into relegation battles in the New Year."
