ROWNTREE RUFC travelled to Castleford 2nd XV hoping to avenge a home defeat by the same opposition.
But bad handling and missed opportunities cost Trees dear for them to fall 27-20.
Despite controlling the opening 15 minutes, the York ranks only had a Dave Harder penalty to show as a reward.
Straight from the re-start Castleford charged forward and scored a converted try, repeating the feat soon after.
Another score by the hosts put Trees 17-3 down at the half-time interval.
After steadying themselves, Trees countered and John Thompson scored a try.
But again Castleford notched two quick tries before Trees were rewarded with a brace of late tries from wingers Mike Palfrey and Chris Cook, Thompson converting one.
