CITY of York Hockey Club’s development side thwarted the weather that cancelled the rest of the club’s fixtures.

The Badgers team aims to help the youngsters develop and help to bridge the gap and transition the youngsters from youth to adult hockey.

The team turned in some of its best hockey of the season in a tightly contested goalless draw at Slazengers.

Dominating the early exchanges, York had several chances to open the scoring with forwards Zack Pierson, Millie Redshaw and Robert Consitt combining well and creating opportunities.

Megan Layfield made her debut in goal and made some fine blocks, ably supported by defenders Hamish Broadbent and Zak Perryman.

York started the second half much as they had finished the first in command.

Cameron Mackay controlled the centre of midfield and created several openings.

Jacob Birch and Anna Good continued to drive forward and provide the width, forcing two short corners from which they almost scored.

But there was no breakthrough by either side with York now going into a break before resuming their season in the New Year.
