BYRON Webster has been released by York City at his own request.
The 19-year-old midfielder figured in ten of Billy McEwan's first 14 matches in charge of the Minstermen at the end of the 2004-05 season after making his debut in December of that campaign during a 2-1 home defeat to Burton.
But, since then, Leeds-born Webster has failed to make a first-team start in the last two seasons and his appearances have been restricted to six substitute outings.
About his departure, City boss McEwan said: "He asked to be released and we wish him all the best for the future."
As an unattached player, Webster is now free to join another club even though the transfer window has closed.
Former City loanee Jason Goodliffe last night completed a move from Stevenage to Rushen & Diamonds. The central defender, who made a dozen starts for City this season, has signed an 18-month contract at Nene Park.
