YORK RUFC head coach Sean Bass believes his men are yet to show their full potential ahead of their important Yorkshire One journey to Bridlington tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers are joint-third in the table but, with promotion an ambition this season, need to keep hanging on to the coat-tails of runaway leaders Doncaster Phoenix, who are unbeaten.

It will be tough journey to the coast for Bass and company, with both of York's defeats having come on the road this season, but the former first team centre is hoping his side can squeak a victory against a side that have lost five of their eight games so far this term.

"It's a big game for us," he said. "Anyone who has been involved with York and Bridlington will realise we have got massive history together. It is always a tough place. You don't go there and relax or you will come up short. They never stop trying for each other.

"We would like to win there and get something out of the game. We have picked a squad that we think can compete there. We have an idea about how Brid are going to play. As we know, we haven't really hit our straps this year.

"We have played 40 minutes of good rugby and that was at Scarborough. We then followed with 40 minutes of mayhem and snuck a win. Competition for places, though, is fantastic.

"We have fantastic back and front row. We have got some great players in the team."

York RI bid to continue their renaissance this season by sending Halifax packing in Yorkshire Four.

The New Lane outfit have won six of their seven outings so far and could rise to second in the table with victory over an equally surging West Yorkshire outfit, who have lost just twice all year.

Frazer Land, club captain, believes playing expansive rugby could be the key to keeping the club's great run going. He said: "We have the potential to go second as the two top teams are playing and we are playing Halifax in fourth.

"That's a big incentive for us. They are physical but we will play open rugby.

"Our forward pack is as mobile as there is in the league and we have a mobile front row as well. We will try and run them off their feet. We will be expansive.

"They have got some big backs by all account and they will want to get up a head of steam. We have got to stop them from playing."

It's derby day at Percy Road as Pocklington entertain local rivals Driffield in North One East.

Pock versus Driff is always keenly contested and the season's biggest crowd is expected. Pocklington have made a strong start to their campaign but were disappointing in defeat last Saturday, whereas Driffield have struggled initially but had a good win last week.

For Pocklington, Ben Rees returns to captain the side from scrum half, with Alex Smith dropping down to lead the Panthers, who are also at home to Dinnington. Pocklington have selected a provisional 20 man squad which includes former Navy front row Chris Forman.
