NORTH Yorkshire jockey David Allan will be aiming to put one over on his boss Tim Easterby in the opening race at Nottingham this afternoon - but may well come unstuck.

Allan, who has ridden more than 50 winners this season, the bulk of them for the Easterby stable, rides the Les Eyre-trained Boxing Shadows in the first division of the 32Red On The App Store Handicap over five furlongs. In opposition is Graham Gibbons aboard the Easterby-trained Hazelrigg. Both horses have leading claims.

Boxing Shadows finished runner-up in his last two starts at Musselburgh and Pontefract, while Hazelrigg was beaten only a length into third place - with Allan on board - over this course and distance a fortnight ago on his favourite soft ground.

There promises to be precious little between the pair today, but Hazelrigg, with underfoot conditions again in his favour, may just have the edge as he seeks to gain an overdue first win of the campaign.

The second division of the contest offers Fredricka the chance to add to a consistent and impressive profile under Malton jockey Jason Hart.

Garry Moss’s sprinter has won three of her last four starts, her most recent success coming at Ayr earlier this month. The handicapper has raised her 7lb for that victory, which will make life tougher here, but she is clearly a filly in form.

Hart, the current champion apprentice, also has a useful chance on Woody Bay, trained by Mark Walford at Sheriff Hutton.

The four-year-old failed by only a length when runner-up to Exclusive Waters at Newcastle on his latest outing. He is fancied to make his presence felt here from the foot of the weights.

Nap selection Hidden Justice makes plenty of appeal in the £10 Free Bet At 32RedSport Handicap.

Trained at Norton by John Quinn, the five-year-old, also an able hurdler, finished second to Kashmiri Sunset at York’s final meeting earlier this month over two-and-a-quarter miles. That was his first outing since May and it will not have been wasted on him.

Hidden Justice reverts to one and three-quarter miles here, but this shorter distance should not compromise his chances. He should go well under Phillip Makin.

In the 32Red Oath Maiden Stakes, Storm The Stars will be a popular choice from the William Haggas stable.

The juvenile showed plenty of promise and potential when runner-up to Aloft - who finished second to Elm Park in last Saturday’s Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster - at Newmarket earlier this month.

Storm The Stars, who failed by only a neck, went into many notebooks that day. He ought to make a bold bid to go one better under Joe Fanning.

At Kempton’s twilight meeting, Freddy Tylicki teams up with Godolphin’s Tijan in the BetBright Mobile Mobile Maiden Stakes.

The juvenile, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, was a beaten favourite on his debut just under a fortnight ago when, after making his move rapidly in mid-race to strike the front over a furlong out, he faded to finish fifth at Redcar over six furlongs.

He is equipped with a hood this time and is also tackling another furlong. He deserves the chance to make amends for his unplaced debut.

Also worthy of attention are Classic Mission (5.25), overdue a winning turn after a series of near-misses, and recent winner Set The Trend (8.25).
