NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC picked up their first victory of the season as they beat King Cross Park 34-22 in the Pennine League Championship.

The All Blacks forged into a first minute lead at White Rose Avenue when Jack Hodgson found a gap in the defensive line to score.

The lead was stretched two minutes later when Pete Ritchie was first to a Liam Gargan kick through to score in the corner, with Gargan converting.

Good All Blacks running built the platform for Steve Doswell to crash over, with Gargan converting.

Hodgson then crossed for his second after good use of the ball to break through the King Cross defence.

King Cross got on the board with a converted try, but the All Blacks quickly responded as Doswell crossed for his second try converted by Gargan.

The visitors narrowed the gap to 28-10 at half-time with a converted try.

All Blacks extended their lead when Ritchie scored his second of the match as he pounced on a kick.

King Cross fought back with two converted tries, but the All Blacks sealed the win when Gargan kicked a penalty late on.

The All Blacks man of the match was Doswell, backed up well by Hayden Barber, Chris Varley and debutant Will Ireland.

Sherburn Bears’ winning start to the division four season continued with a 34-8 victory over Farnley.

A lacklustre display from the Bears was still too much for the Falcons and the game was all-but wrapped up by half-time with Sherburn 24-0 up thanks to tries from Connor Jordan, Ben Pugh, Shaun Crossland and Ray Boyes.

Connor Jordan converted all four scores to give the Bears a comfortable half-time lead after playing up the slope at Eversley Park.

Sherburn faltered in the second half as penalties and handling errors crept in, giving Farnley a foothold in the game to score two tries.

Despite such a poor second half showing, the Bears still scored two cracking tries through Johnboy Fenwick and Antony Yates.

The Elmet Driver Training man of the match Ben Pugh mopped up well at the back and was a constant threat with the ball in hand. Second place went to strong running centre Fenwick whilst third place went to hard working forward Rhys Hughes, the supporters man of the match went to Captain Ray Boyes who also won the tackle count.

Selby Warriors were 30-0 winners over Dewsbury Celtic in the same division.
