IN-FORM City of York men's I maintained their unbeaten start to the North Hockey League division one season with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Harrogate I.

York took the lead at Huntington School when Anthony Bull found Mike Carter at the back post after a short corner had broken down and Carter tapped in.

The home side then doubled their lead through top scorer Rich Jenkin, whose drag flick was too powerful for the Harrogate keeper.

Harrogate replied after a goalmouth scramble from a short corner, but Jenkin was again on hand to restore the two-goal cushion after half-time with a drag flick which evaded the keeper and a defender on the line.

York's fourth goal started in defence with a pin-point aerial pass to Stephen Paterson, who opened up play for Carter to receive the ball and dribble into the 'D'.

In a similar fashion to the first goal, Ellwood was unmarked at the back post to tap home.

Harrogate went down to ten men as a result of a yellow card and the pressure on the defence told when a defender stopped an Olli Couttie shot on the line with their foot.

The resulting flick was slammed into the net by Alex Cockram as York kept up the pressure on leaders Sheffield University Bankers, who are top on goal difference.

City of York II went down 4-2 at Leeds IV in the Yorkshire League premier division.

City went behind almost straight from the start, with the home side sweeping upfield and scoring off a rebound.

A good spell of York pressure was rewarded when Matt Horn teed up Chris Dutton to equalise.

Sadly City were only on terms for a matter of minutes before Leeds regained the lead.

A quick sideline ball was deflected into the 'D' and Leeds scored with a reverse stick volley.

Leeds extended their lead early in the second half when a drag flick from a penalty corner was deflected home on the line.

Simon Law pulled a goal back for City with a penalty corner strike, but a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Leeds to grab a fourth.

City of York III moved into second place in division two after a superb 2-0 over promotion rivals Normanby Park I.

York managed to soak up the early Park pressure and Brian Ignjatovic made a brilliant save to keep the scores level.

The deadlock was broken on 15 minutes when Johnny Jenkins charged into the 'D', beating two defenders, and passed to an unmarked Ben Foster, who calmly drilled the ball past the keeper.

The half closed with Ignjatovic coming off his line to preserve the lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, Tim Lister made a superb run, beating a couple of players and firing the ball past the onrushing keeper.

York could have made it 3-0 but Jenkins was denied by a defender after rounding the keeper.

There were superb performances from Pete Richardson, Hugh Richards, Dave Rogers and Joe Lancaster, while Tom Norman was man of the match.

City of York IV kept up their 100 per cent record in division three with a 5-1 victory at Bradford University 1.

Goals from Henry Wilson and Greg Sykes made it 2-0 at the break, and the visitors added two goals from Rob Unsworth and one from Wilson after the break.

In division four north, City of York V went down 3-2 to visiting Harrogate III after leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hosts could easily have led 3-0 at the break, but a Tony Brimble short corner was all that separated the teams.

Harrogate scored three goals in a 20-minute spell of second half pressure and City could only claw back one goal, Neil Reader converting from Pat Birch's assist.

City of York VI were 3-0 winners at Boston Spa IV in division five north.

Basement side City of York VII lost 7-3 at home to Boston Spa III in division five north.

Andrew Hyams gave the hosts the lead and they added goals from Harry Heyes and Dave Lancaster before half-time, but Boston Spa scored freely in the second half.

City of York VIII were trounced 11-0 by visitors Thirsk II after suffering an early injury to key defender Nick Longster.
