KRISS BRINING has pledged his future to York City Knights.

The hooker, who played 13 times for the club last season, is the latest recruit as head coach James Ford continues to shape his squad ahead of the 2015 Kingstone Press League One campaign.

Brining scored two tries and participated in both of the club's play-off games against Oldham and Hunslet. But all of his appearances came as an interchange, and the 20-year-old will be competing with Harry Carter, who also put pen to paper at York this week, for a spot in Ford's first team next term.

His signature brings the number of players who have agreed terms with the Knights to 15.

Ford said: "Kriss is an absolutely fantastic athlete. He is very, very strong.

"Last year he travelled a long way and improved a lot. He was a little bit unlucky. He should have played more minutes. Not only is he a great athlete, his game management is rapidly improving.

"He was getting us around the park quite well at the back end of last year. Kriss has got his own style, and it is a very good style, and I can see him becoming more influential."

Asked about his progress as he puts his first team together as the man in charge of the Knights, Ford added: "I am pretty pleased with how the squad is shaping up. We will have competition for places and we will have a team of athletes across the board.

"We will have some physical players as well. We have also been look to increase our options around half back but we don't have to do that now. We can wait for the January sales."

Ford is expected to announce further additions to his squad in the next couple of days.
