HARRY CARTER'S "winning mentality" has delighted York City Knights chief James Ford - as he unveiled the young hooker as his latest signing.

The 20-year-old has put pen to paper to join the new coach's revolution at Bootham Crescent and Ford believes he has secured the services of an "outstanding player".

Continuing a busy week for the Knights, which has already seen Josh Tonks and Liam Cunningham commit their futuresto the club's efforts to climb out of Kingstone Press League One next season, Carter's capture will give his fledgling York side "composure" and "pace", reckons Ford.

Carter played six times for the Knights last season, scoring a try against South Wales Scorpions in March, and was previously coached by Ford at Wakefield College before starring for the Knights' Under-18s in 2012 and, subsequently, the U20s.

While not the biggest, at 5' 7", he was first thrown in to the open age set up against Batley in the Championship in August 2012 and could be a key part of Ford's plans in 2015.

"He's an outstanding player," the head coach explained. "He has got a superb amount of pace and showed glimpses of his ability and potential in his appearances. He is not just a good player, he has got a winning mentality.

"He has got a fantastic approach to rugby league and life in general. We could not have any more faith in Harry. He will follow the game plan, he works very hard for the teamand he also brings a massive amount of composure around dummy half.

"That (lack of composure) may have cost us a bit at the back end of last season. We lost a bit of direction - certainly early in the halves.

"Harry is unselfish and, for such a young person, he is very mature and intelligent. He is mature beyond his years. We are very excited about Harry. He has got ability in his game but he can also improve."

It means the Knights have so far agreed terms with 15 players. Aside from Carter, they are: Nev Morrison, Pat Smith, Ed Smith, Greg Minikin, Jamel Chisholm, Colton Roche, Jack Aldous, Mark Applegarth, Austin Bell, Jake Joynt, Ben Dent, Adam Dent, Josh Tonks and Liam Cunningham.
