A SURGING start was wasted by Acomb Hockey Club men’s first team to surrender a point in their Yorkshire League division four tie against Thirsk.
The Tangerines powered into a two-goal lead. A fierce Baz Whitfield shot cannoned off the visiting keeper for Matt Dickenson to force home the rebound.
Just eight minutes later, Dickenson secured his second from a penalty corner.
More chances were created but all were squandered and that proved costly when the visitors struck twice in the second half.
Despite a solid team effort, Acomb II lost 2-0 at division five north rivals Airedale.
The first half was scoreless, a state that was only broken when Airedale converted a penalty awarded after the ball came off an Acomb defender.
Just before the end the hosts poached a late and undeserved second.
