AN England v Scotland clash will top the bill at the Second Night of The Legions martial art show in just a fortnight’s time.

Organised by Dave Phillips, co-founder of the Legions Thai-Boxing Club in Fifth Avenue, the club’s second show is already poised to be a sell-out and will be spearheaded by York’s newest professional hit-man, Danny Harrison-Little.

The 22-year-old will headline the 12-contest programme at the York Railway Institute base in Queen Street on Saturday, November 1 when he defends his ICO British title against Glasgow’s Michael Wiseman.

The Scottish fighter, who represents the Griphouse Gym, is currently ranked fourth in the United Kingdom with Harrison-Little, who turned professional this summer, 13th in the national ratings. If Harrison-Little holds on to his title he will also seize Wiseman’s fourth-ranked status.

Said Phillips, with whom Harrison-Little has been training every day: “It’s a very important fight for Danny - the hardest so far of his career.

“We’ve watched a lot of videos of Wiseman, who is older and a lot more experienced. He’s a fighter who always comes forward and while we will not be under-estimating him in any way, we have been working on a strategy which we are confident will lead to Danny winning.

“That would then push him to number four in the UK and that will be a big step in Danny’s development.”

Harrison-Little has also been aided in his training by sessions with Liam Harrison, from the Bad Company Gym in Leeds. Harrison has just been crowned a world champion in professional Thai boxing.

Added Phillips: “We have had a lot of support from Liam, which has been great for Danny, who can’t wait for the show.”

Two other national title contests will grace the bill.

Explosive Legions fighter Liam Brough returns after a lengthy absence for the ICO English title under K1 rules, while Naomi Ripley from the Bad Company outfit in Leeds will face Claire Clements from Newcastle’s The Factory gym, which has established a solid working union with York’s Legions club. That bout will be for ICO Thai boxing K1 rules crown at 67 kilogrammes.

Legions battler Gavin Tuohy, meanwhile, will take on Simon White from Armstrong’s gym in Manchester for the ICO K1 area belt at 70kg, while 46-year-old Phil Wetton will be out to take his unbeaten sequence to two straight wins after taking up the sport.

The show has again chosen the special baby care unit at York Hospital as its charity for which a bucket collection will be made on the night. Doors open at 5pm with the bill to start at 6pm.

Phillips, meanwhile, revealed that he and York boxer Dean McQuade are to launch a special charity boxing night next February. Details and the sale of tickets will follow in the run-up to Christmas.
