YORK Nomads booked their place in round two of the York Sunday Morning League Cup with a 4-3 victory at Thorpe United.

James Wye gave the hosts an early lead, rolling the ball into an empty net from 20 yards with the keeper stranded near a corner flag.

But two set-pieces took Nomads into a 2-1 half-time lead before Matthew Harker restored parity, heading home a corner after the restart.

Nomads then hit the decisive two goals before Thorpe substitute Jamie Brace flicked the ball over his marker and smashed a volley home to narrow the gap ten minutes from time.

The visitors' goals were shared by Chris Bilton, Sam Thompson, Nathan Bradley and Tom Wheatland.

Dunnington will join Nomads in the draw following a 2-1 win over division one rivals Bubwith White Swan. Harry Lynn and Johnny Andrew put the hosts in front before a Josh Tattersall own goal made for an interesting finale.

Wigginton had to endure several scares from Drax before finally seeing them off 11-7.

In a game filled with defensive errors, lower league Drax matched the division one leaders for a while, going in at 5-5 at the interval, after a bizarre first half.

Over half of Wigginton’s plunder was collected by keeper-turned-striker Michael Clancy who bagged a double hat-trick. Jamie Green (2) Jordan Holt, Tom Metcalfe and Tom Nicholson also netted.

Cup holders King William enjoyed smooth passage with an 8-1 victory over Selby RSSC.

Joe Dale, Mitch Carter (2), Danny Gray, Anthony Evans, Danny Snaith, Matty Bastock and Daniel Pedras shared the goals.

Kyle Wilks' superb 20-yard drive put Brayton ahead against Wentworth but Dom Green equalised two minutes later with a near-post header.

Ged Christian and Patrick Guest put Brayton 3-1 up but five minutes after the break Adam James made it 3-2. There was no further score until the 81st minute when Joshua Knowles beat three defenders for the visitors’ fourth. Paul McGuinness then ran onto a Wilks pass to smash the ball home and finish the contest before Green notched his second to give a 5-3 final score.

Danny Cotton hit two consolation goals for NUR as they went down 10-2 to Britannia Tadcaster.

An under-strength Leeman United lost 7-0 at Hounds, while Albion Vaults beat York Wanderers by the same scoreline. Max Chambers (2), Chris Harkin, Darren Rollinson, Daniel Tame, Dave Reasbeck and Daniel Ferguson hit the target for Vaults.

Hemingbrough beat Hambleton 3-2 thanks to an own goal plus strikes from Tom Collins and Guy May. Christopher Thompson’s goal was not enough for Selby Olympia as they went down 4-1 at York RI.
