HEWORTH ‘A’s good start to the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League continued with a 5-2 victory over Bootham ‘B’.

It put them top of the table, as Malton did not have a game, but they did not start well - Matt Smith putting Bootham ahead with a victory over Adam Scaife.

Heworth drew level with Gary Douglas just getting the better of Paul Scorfield but Bootham went back in front as Paul Powell defeated James Kilmartin.

From here, Heworth took charge - winning the remaining matches. They still had to work hard, none more so than Mark Winskill, who had to give John Wortley a 55 handicap start.

He made a 49 break but potted the blue and went in off. Wortley grabbed the pink but also went in off, leaving Winskill to win the frame.

Jordan Worobec (32 break) also beat Lionel Barnes, with Neil Wood (51 and 30 breaks) beating Paul Mahoney.

Bootham ‘A’ started their campaign with a 5-2 victory over Heworth ‘B’, despite losing the first frame on the black as John Sherlock defeated Tim Fillingham.

Bootham won the next three with victories for Stuart Martel, Colin Robinson and Mark Darley (24 break).

Rob Barron was unlucky to lose on the black as Martin Johnson double kissed the final colour into the pocket to win for Heworth.

John Darley and Barry Rankin then sealed victory for Bootham.

Fulford ‘B’ took an early lead against Acomb ‘A’ with Andy Ogley beating Richard Lillie (26 break) before Roland Cox levelled with a re-spotted black against Bob Smith.

Andy Hurley put Fulford back in front only for Nick Marchant (26 and 22 breaks) to level. Two black-ball games followed with both going to Acomb - Paul Holmes beating Dean Smith and Keith Thornhill defeating Dale Rout. Mick Borg won the last frame against Jim Rollinson on the pink to seal victory.

The game against Acomb ‘B’ and Fulford ‘A’ went down to the wire as a final deciding frame between captains Steve Rodgers (Acomb) and Alan Reed (Fulford) was a tense and defensive match.

Rodgers won and Acomb squeaked a 4-3 victory. Kevin Ventress and Neil Goodacre were also among their winners.

Tom Lewis, Sam Wass and Sam England replied.
