YORKSHIRE’S up-and-coming stars will be going to Strensall this Saturday to take on Hunters York & District Senior League side Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the annual challenge match in memory of Phil Fisher.

The Yorkshire Academy have recently won the Solly Sports ECB County Premier League - ending seven years of dominance enjoyed by York Cricket Club.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge play their final fixture in the York Senior League today and will finish either second or third in the standings, behind Woodhouse Grange, who have won the title for the fourth successive season.

This annual challenge match, to take place at SHB’s Moor Farm ground in Strensall, was founded in memory of Fisher, whose three sons are all talented members of the Sheriff Hutton Bridge squad.

Adam skippers the first XI, Mark, who recently won the Yorkshire Club Fast Bowler contest at Headingley, opens the bowling for the side, and youngest brother, Matthew, plays for England Under-19s.

The latter, also plays for Yorkshire Academy as well as being a regular member of the county club’s second XI, for which he was recently awarded his county cap.

The game, which starts at noon, will be used to raise funds for York Against Cancer.

It is hoped a good crowd will be in attendance.
