YORK golfer Simon Dyson's incredible record in the KLM Open almost nabbed the York golf ace an historic fourth crown.

Dyson, winner of the Dutch Open championship in 2006, 2009 and 2011, was pipped to the title by former Ryder Cup player and fellow Englishman Paul Casey at the Kennemer course.

Instead, the 36-year-old Malton & Norton Golf Club star had to be content with runners-up spot, a cheque for 200,000 euros and no doubt a significant rise in the new world ratings, which are published later today.

After an opening two rounds of 70 and 66 left him four-under at the half-way stage, the current world number 133 was in a healthy position.

His charge started yesterday when he posted a second successive 66 rattling in no fewer than seven birdies, but marred by three dropped shots. That's when Casey made his break with a stunning eight-under 62.

For the first eight holes Dyson hit par after par. Then he blasted into the groove with five birdies carding a stunning inward nine of just 30 shots. However, Casey held on to deny the York ace an historic fourth KLM crown.
