KEVIN RYAN, who produced one of the sensations of the season at Leopardstown on Saturday evening when his stable star The Grey Gatsby turned the tables on Australia, his Juddmonte International conqueror at York last month, goes in search of small-fry prizes this afternoon.

Ryan, whose success in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes was worth almost £500,000, sends two runners to Wolverhampton who will be racing for a tiny fraction of that jackpot prize.

That said, Ruby Rose and Robben both have sound chances of winning in the hands of Shane Gray, who is apprenticed to the North Yorkshire trainer and is excellent value for his 5lb claim.

Ruby Rose won a selling race on this course at the end of last month. She tackles the first division of the Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Nursery Handicap and, racing off a mark of only 60, she can prove herself outside of selling company.

In the second division of the same race, half an hour later, Robben looks sure to figure in the shake-up. The Hambleton gelding has finished fourth in nursery company on each on his last two starts, most recently at Kempton where he appeared to struggle to see out the step up to a mile. He should be better suited to dropping back again to seven furlongs here and merits respect.

As for The Grey Gatsby, his season goes from strength to strength.

Winner of the Dante Stakes at York in May, he went on to win the French Derby before chasing home Australia, who had completed the English-Irish Derby double, in last month's Juddmonte International. That he bravely managed to topple that mighty winner in Ireland on Saturday speaks volumes for his talent and also the skills of Ryan, pictured.

Also, winning jockey Ryan Moore, produced a positively brilliant ride on the grey colt, whose fan club grows by the day.

Back to Wolverhampton's bread-and-butter fare and Reginald Claude (3.30), who seems to reserve his best form for this course, and Sakash (6.00), a recent winner at Yarmouth and successful at this venue in April, are two others to note.

At Musselburgh, Boxing Shadows is napped to land the Petrushka Vodka Handicap over five furlongs.

Trained near Beverley by Les Eyre, who is enjoying a good season on his return to Britain after 11 years in Spain, Boxing Shadows is overdue a winning turn. Beaten little more than three lengths when eighth to Oldjoesaid from a very challenging draw at Beverley last time, the gelding had previously twice finished third at Pontefract behind Poyle Vinnie and Majestic Manannan. He promises to go well here from a favourable high draw, near the stands rail.

The Best One Nursery Handicap, also over five furlongs, offers Youcouldntmakeitup the chance of getting her career back in track.

The Tim Easterby-trained juvenile made a pleasing winning debut at Beverley, but she finished last of seven when stepped-up to six furlongs at Ripon on her only subsequent start. She reverts to the minimum trip this afternoon and is worth another chance to fulfil her Beverley promise.

Easterby has another good chance on the card with Deepsand in the £10,000 Batleys Cash And Carry Handicap.

Although yet to win this season, Deepsand has produced some decent efforts in defeat including at Haydock ten days ago when he finished fourth to William Of Orange. David Allan, rider of Boxing Shadows, also partners the fancied Easterby pair.

Sammy-Jo Bell, the regular rider of Royal Straight, teams-up with the Linda Perratt-trained gelding again in the Best In Handicap over an extended mile and a half.

Royal Straight has been running pretty well without getting his head in front this season, but if he could reproduce his slightly unlucky fourth-placed effort at Hamilton on his penultimate start, he has every chance.
