STATION FC sent a statement of intent to their York Sunday Morning League rivals with an opening-day nine-goal demolition of top-flight newcomers Bubwith White Swan.

Station dominated throughout, taking a three-goal cushion into the second period before trebling that.

Gary Collier led the scoring with a five-goal haul supplemented by Ryan Whitlam (2), Wayne Brook and Liam Brown.

Hot on their heels are Wigginton Grasshoppers, who defeated visitors Leeman United 6-1.

Dale Lumley gave Leeman an early lead after ten minutes, but this was erased soon after by a Neale Holmes leveller.

Lee McQuade put Wiggy into the lead for the first time, a lead increased by Holmes on the hour mark.

Matthew Tiplady then added a fourth for the home side before substitute Jamie Willstrop added a fifth from 18 yards. A late Terry Taylor penalty completed the scoring.

A brace apiece for Scott Nicholas and Adam Field got Britannia Tadcaster’s division two campaign off to a flier after routing Bishopthorpe 6-1. Jordon Willoughby and Jamie Glover bagged Tad’s other goals.

York Phoenix lead division three following a 6-3 win at Selby Olympia, who suffered from the lack of a regular goalkeeper.

Phoenix raced into a three-goal lead late in the first half, before Andrew Porter reduced the deficit immediately before the break.

A further Phoenix goal restored the lead before Olympia got a glimmer of hope when Porter hit two goals to complete his hat-trick. However, York Phoenix added a fifth and sixth late on.

A seven-goal thriller went the way of Marcia Bishopthorpe after a ding-dong battle with Thorpe United.

Bish took the lead with a penalty after half an hour but the scores were soon level thanks to a 20-yard screamer from Matthew Harker.

Thorpe were slow out of the blocks in the second period, soon finding themselves trailing 3-1, but Andrew Jackson pegged the leaders back when he turned in a rebound from Jake Wild’s strike.

Marcia struck a headed goal before Wild made a game of it late on, Bish winning 4-3.
