LADIES ARE FOREVER will aim to once again light up York Racecourse on Sunday when she contests the Betfred Garrowby Stakes at The Press Family Raceday.

The Geoff Oldroyd-trained six-year-old has won three of the last four renewals of the Group 3 totepool Summer Stakes over course and distance on Knavesmire.

She was also only beaten a nose by Hallelujah in the Betfred Garrowby Stakes 12 months ago and will have another go at the six furlong Listed contest at the weekend.

Brawby-based Oldroyd said: "She just enjoys York.”

The trainer has indicated that another victory at her favourite stamping ground could also lead to her retirement, depending on the views of her owner - Pocklington tyre boss Reg Bond.

He added: “It’s not impossible. I suppose if we came to York on Sunday and she actually won again...maybe we would make a decision then. If she won there, you might say ‘Right, that’s it.’ I don’t know – it is up to Reg.

“She is in great nick if things went right – and it looks like the ground is going to drop right. She is as good as when she won the (2014) Summer Stakes.

“I think she is better racing closer to home. She just likes York and she loves fast ground, that’s the thing. We’ve been lucky every time she has gone there for that particular race it has been quick ground.

“She has a beautiful temperament, is easy to train and easy to handle. She is a star in our yard and keeps coming up for us every year. You’ve got to admire her.”
