LEADERS Woodhouse Grange ended the unbeaten record of challengers Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.

Invited to bat first, the Bridge lost two wickets for only seven runs, but Rob Pinder then rescued the innings with some fine hitting, scoring all but four runs out of his fifty in boundaries. He eventually fell for 65 and the innings closed on 155-9 as Steve Burdett took 3-47.

Woodhouse then slipped to 20-2, but Andy Bilton struck 83 not out and Matt Hattee made a half- century as an unbroken stand of 137 took Woodhouse to an eight-wicket win which may well decide the title.

Easingwold moved above Sheriff Hutton Bridge and back into second place when they disposed of lowly Sewerby. Mal Artley made 25 for the Clifftoppers, but his side totalled 97 as Steve Piercy grabbed 5-21 and Rich Lindsey took 4-27.

Piercy then hit 51 and Kyle Waite had an unbeaten 25 in an eight-wicket triumph.

Dunnington’s home game with Clifton Alliance was abandoned after Clifton had totalled 188-7.

Hosts Fenner made 177-9 when they entertained York II, with Paul Scrowston making 45 and Stephen Croft 33 not out as T Spearman claimed 3-39. York were bowled out for a mere 62. Jake Murphy, with 21, was the pick of the batsmen.

At Stamford Bridge, the home side had reached 160-4 with Dominic Rhodes 93 not out when the game was called off.

Both sides took valuable points from a draw at Studley Royal, where Beverley got 27 points and Studley 17.
