NEWLY-PROMOTED Church Fenton White Horse made it two wins out of two with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Dringhouses in the first round of midweek fixtures in the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division, writes Josh Luckhurst.

On the back of a 1-0 victory on their top-flight debut, the goals against a young Dringhouses team came from Oliver Sykes, Rory McCrea, Lee Jones, James Barrett, Lenny Mason and substitute Jonah Beecher. Robin Jefferson scored a consolation.

Old Malton St Mary’s also secured a win with the same scoreline against Terrington Glory.

Two goals from Richard Dunning alongside strikes from Dean Nuttall, Tom Fenwick and substitutes Darren Dunning and Josh Bown ensured the three points, despite Ollie Varey’s leveller in the first half.

Wigginton Grasshoppers responded to their opening day defeat with a stunning 7-1 success over Huntington Rovers. The home side raced into a 4-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Matt Tiplady, Jamie Willstrop and two from Terry Taylor.

Despite a Lee Bunce finish to reduce the deficit, Grasshoppers maintained their momentum with a further strike from Taylor, which completed his hat-trick, along with a brace from Josh Luckhurst.

A Danny Leach hat-trick helped Copmanthorpe win 5-2 at York RI and continue their 100 per cent start to the season. A straight red card for Lee Atkinson made life difficult for the home team and further goals from Chris Storey and Joel Dixon confirmed the win, despite replies from Leigh Dutton and Aimo Abdulhafi.

Dunnington carried on their good form with a 3-0 win at home to Harrison Signs.

Warren Lowe’s dismissal left the away side with an uphill battle and two finishes from Robert Chipps, plus another from substitute Alex Low, ensured all three points went to the hosts.

Premier division newcomers Osbaldwick won 4-0 against Poppleton United thanks to a brace from Tom Wheatland and strikes from Sam Thompson and Mike Hattee. Poppleton also lost to Riccall by the same score.
