WIGGINTON are celebrating back-to-back titles in the York Amateur Bowling Association League.

The club were crowned champions of division two this season, following up their division three success of the previous campaign.

They closed out their fixtures by beating visitors Clifton 86-38, picking up seven points with some fine performances from the rinks of skips Simon Ewing (30-3), Brian Hutton (22-4) and Dave Jervis (25-8).

Wigginton lost only two matches, both at home, in their title-winning surge.

However, in the final matches of the York Veteran's League, Wigginton teams had mixed fortunes.

Colin Ellis's 'A' team, despite winning 19-12 away to West Park 'B', were relegated to division two on shot difference, whereas Dave Imeson's 'B' side returned to the top division after winning 17-10 at home to Rowntree 'B'.

Michael Barlow's 'D' side, assured of division four survival, lost 13-12 at Osbaldwick 'C.

In the midweek Ryedale Veterans' League, Wigginton 'A' lost 62-60 at home to Helmsley, managing only four points from the winning rinks of skips Ellis and Michael Wadsworth, but the same team reached the Ossie Ashcroft Cup semi-final after toppling hosts Easingwold 'A' 74-63. They will go to Pickering next Wednesday.

After their final two matches in the Private Clubs League, Wigginton 'A' were relegated from division two, while, in the BataGas Triples League, Wigginton lost 57-63 at home to Helmsley - taking points from the winning rinks of skips Jane and Gary Stockton - before garnering six points in a 47-43 success over visitors Swinton.
