YORK claimed their maiden Foss Evening Cricket League division one title as an all-round performance from Jake Murphy proved too much for relegated Melbourne.

Murphy blitzed the Melbourne batting with a spell of 4-8, with Ian Kirby the only man showing resistance with 28, to see the visitors all out for 68.

Murphy then hit 34 as York won by eight wickets.

Heworth claimed the runners-up spot with a victory over Stamford Bridge, but what looked like being a comfortable victory almost turned into defeat.

Olly Sherwood (31) and Rich Walton (29) led Heworth to 119-7.

Steve Baxter’s 3-16 had a large say in Stamford Bridge being reduced to 45-7, but Callum Burge then struck an unbeaten 52 to give Bridge a chance up until the last ball when they needed five.

Dunnington missed their chance to claim the runners-up position as they lost by 20 runs at home to Osbaldwick, ensuring the visitors stay in the top flight by right.

Londesborough Park beat deposed champions Woodhouse Grange by six runs at Sutton-on-Derwent.

In the winner-stays-up division two match at Bishopthorpe, The Retreat posted 122-7 with Buddi Mirando (29), Salman Syed (28) and Nadeem Shefta (28) in the runs.

Bishop’s skipper Scott Clapham made an important 53, but it was youngsters Jamie Mackie (23no from 11 balls) and Rory Watson that made the 20 needed off the last 12 balls as they dispatched the penultimate over for 15 in near darkness.

North Dalton finished their promotion-winning season with a nine-wicket win at Thixendale.

The Walgate brothers, Si (28) and Tom (26), along with Mark Clarkson (27) led the champions to 108 all out.

Mike Anderson then returned some of the best figures of the summer with 6-27 to restrict Thix to 99-8.

Yapham sealed third place with a defeat of promoted Pocklington.

Scott Hardwick (4-13) and Jon Flint (3-10) combined to bundle Pocklington out for 47. Yapham then knocked the runs off in 59 balls with 15-year-old Jack Foster, an ever present through the season, making 21 not out.

Stockton & Hopgrove finished a difficult campaign with a victory over Dunnington Academy, who tailed off after a strong first half of the season.

Dunnington were held to 82-7 before Rich Cockerill (39no) and Rich Kerrison (31) led Stockton home by nine wickets.

Bubwith completed an unbeaten season with a nail-biting victory in a low-scoring division three encounter at The Retreat.

Having rattled up nearly 200 last week, Bubwith only managed 51 on a well-worn track.

The Retreat had 12 on the board after only two overs and Bubwith also went on to drop five chances, but they took nine Retreat wickets and held them four runs short.

Ovington sealed the second promotion spot by defeating Heworth Nomads to end a three-match losing streak that was threatening to ruin their season.

Pete Kelly (60) finished a fine campaign by top-scoring in Ovington’s 129-4 before Ben Gee returned 3-9 to hold the Nomads to 88-8.

Bishop Wilton convincingly defeated Tang Hall Tigers as Dan Peel’s 4-17 saw the visitors bowled out for 44. Bill Browne then made an unbeaten 18 in Wilton’s eight-wicket triumph.

Heworth Colts finished on a high by bowling out Aviva Vikings for 77 before winning by seven wickets.
