THE York Minster Engineering Football League premier division season got under way with the two newly-promoted teams claiming tight victories, writes Josh Luckhurst.

Church Fenton White Horse overcame Easingwold Town 1-0 thanks to a goal from Lenny Mason five minutes from time to secure the three points on their top flight debut.

Goals from Jordan Willoughby, Scott Nicholas and an own goal ensured that last season’s division one champions Tadcaster Magnets came away from Terrington with a 3-2 win despite a Dave Bradshaw penalty and an Alex Yates goal.

Defending champions Old Malton St Mary’s opened with a 3-2 victory at Riccall United, last season's runners-up.

The Saints' scorers were Dean Nuttall, Callum Scott and substitute Joshua Bown. Both teams went down to ten men when Malton's Richard Dunning and Riccall's Gary Collier were sent off.

York RI beat Dringhouses 4-2. Liam Stilgoe gave Houses the lead but Leigh Dutton levelled before half-time. Liam Keenaghan, Nick Hutchinson and Jimmy Clamp gave RI a three-goal cushion before a Sam Kitson consolation.

Wigginton lost 4-2 at home to Dunnington. Josh Hutchison scored against his former side to put Dunnington ahead before Matt Tiplady levelled with a 25-yarder. Scott Sullivan’s brace put the away side in control and, although Will Dunlop’s header cut the deficit, Jimmy Willmoth secured the win.

Copmanthorpe were 2-0 winners over Harrison Signs with goals from Robin Bedford and Mark Featherstone.
