YORK-BASED Grand Central Rail is the most trusted long-distance rail company in the UK, according to a national survey of passengers.

The company, which runs direct direct train services from York to London, said the research investigated passengers’ trust in train operators’ day-to-day service delivery, engagement, integrity and reputation.

The research, Passengers’ Relationship With The Rail Industry, revealed that Grand Central Rail topped passengers’ perceptions of trust in service, covering punctuality, reliability, value for money and helpful staff. as well as trust in relationship – being truthful and acting with honesty and integrity.

The company also scored highly in the trust in judgement category, which demonstrates passengers’ perceptions of a rail operators’ high principles and doing the right thing.

A spokeswoman said: “Grand Central received positive results in all three categories and was the only rail operator to receive a positive Net Promotor Score – which means passengers are very likely to recommend Grand Central Rail services to a friend.”

Grand Central recently announced an extension to its licensing agreement, allowing it to continue operating trains to and from London until 2026.

 

Community champions

TWO unsung heroes from York have been selected as winners of Grand Central's ‘Heart of the Community’ awards.

Anna Bialkowsks and Nigel Poulton from York were crowned ‘community champions’ by Grand Central for their generous contribution to the local community.

A spokeswoman for the company, which runs direct trains from York to London, said Anna, from Tang Hall, was nominated by a member of City of York Council for her commitment to organising events and community initiatives.

She said: “The judges were particularly impressed that, after joining the local community only two years ago, Anna has become a key figure in the area, offering support to individuals as well as local projects while encouraging others to follow in her steps.”

Nigel Poulton was nominated by a colleague at The Island charity for his commitment to supporting young people in the community, mentoring families, building long- lasting relationships and helping their individual needs.
