DESPITE likely changes, manager Nigel Worthington pledged York City's aim was to down Doncaster Rovers in the Capital One Cup tonight.

The City boss was insistent his Minstermen - hurt, yet still buoyed by their League Two opener at Tranmere Rovers - would be going full-out for conquest and a potentially lucrative second-round tie, even if he was to make "one or two" switches.

"Whether it's league or cup, clubs like ourselves can't pick and choose our results," said Worthington.

"We set our stall out to try to win every game - we have got to do that.

"We have to be positive and look forward to every game we play. You can't just think about winning some games. You have to try to get the job done in every one."

The City manager's rallying cry came ahead of the visit of the League One outfit, who kick-started their term with an emphatic 3-0 crushing of Somerset hosts Yeovil on Saturday, and before considering the possible cash boost.

"It's a very important game on the finance side as a cup run can gain extra revenue for the club to play with."

While Rovers ran riot at Yeovil, City were only denied similar maximum honours at Prenton Park by a stoppage-time leveller, which Worthington confirmed as a "kick in the teeth".

But despite posting a "very good point...almost an exceptional three points" on the board, the City leader said he might ring some changes from the XI who started on Merseyside four days ago.

He would not be drawn on the switches, but there could be a first start of the season for midfielder Luke Summerfield, who replaced Anthony Straker for the final 12 minutes at Prenton Park.

Striker Jake Hyde, meanwhile, had intensive physiotherapy yesterday on the knee injury he suffered in training which ruled him out of the clash at Tranmere. A decision would be left until the latest possible time to determine whether he may figure tonight.

"We have a pretty strong squad so I could put a couple of players in, and not weaken the team in any shape or form," said Worthington.

Hailing Doncaster's 3-0 win at Yeovil as no mean achievement, Worthington said there were enough positives to be taken from City's 1-1 draw at Tranmere to suggest a cup surprise was on in his men's first appearance this season in front of their own supporters.

"Losing that equaliser in the last few minutes obviously hurts more than being 1-1 with 20 minutes to go - you don't feel the hurt as much," said the City boss.

"It's a kick in the teeth but that's football. There's not that much to bounce back from because it was an excellent point and we have to take the good things from it into the game against Doncaster."
