SELBY RUFC have revamped their coaching structure ahead of the new season.

Head coach, and rugby and club development officer, Richard Nicholson has brought in former player and ex-Leeds Carnegie chief Diccon Edwards as a coaching mentor.

Nicholson, who is working towards the RFU Level 3 Coaching Award and is a lead coach for the England Rugby developing player programme run in conjunction with Leeds Carnegie, heads a team that will also see Dave Francis develop the senior backs and Jacob Robinson work with the senior forwards.

Duncan Hardy, skipper when Selby lifted the RFU Senior Vase at Twickenham last year, will lead strength and conditioning, while Steve Quinn, Steve Cruise and Jamie Pocklington will work with respective age grades.

Nicholson said: “We are truly very privileged and lucky to have a coaching team with such qualifications and experience. The coaching structure draws on this experience by pooling this resource and making it available to all age groups from the senior first XV down to the micros.

“Although this structure is new for 2014/15, we started building it 16 months ago. It is no coincidence that last year 16 Selby players went on to play for Yorkshire and one, Will Dennis, went all the way to wear an England Jersey at under-16 level.

“I am excited and honoured to be coordinating the team this season and I hope that we will go on to further successes throughout the club.”
