YORK Lokomotive ARLC needed a late, late show to secure two points towards their Yorkshire League group two promotion push at Castleford Panthers.

Two tries in the last three minutes of the match saw Lokos snatch a dramatic 40-30 away triumph over robust opposition.

The Panthers took the lead in the early exchanges, but great work from Lokos scrum-half Tyler Dawson opened up the hosts' defence to feed supporting second row Jon Cambridge.

He raced in unopposed and stand-off Tom Dunmore converted.

The York side endured a 20-minute period of missed opportunities and lax defending, allowing Panthers to score three tries without reply, two converted.

With half-time approaching, Lokos captain Liam Watling took charge, evading two tacklers to crash over. Dunmore's conversion made it 20-12 to the Panthers at half-time.

After the restart, the Lokos scored two converted tries in quick succession from Diddy Bellwood and hooker Ricky James to take the lead, only to see the Castleford side hit back with a converted try.

With only ten minutes remaining, Cambridge got his second try following great work from full-back Matt Turner. However, with three minutes on the clock, the Panthers again hit the front with a try.

A moment of brilliance from Bellwood, using outstanding prop Ben Hepworth as a perfect foil, saw him dummy his way through the Castleford defence to score a spectacular try, Dunmore converting.

With only seconds remaining, the hosts tried to retrieve the ball from a short restart but Dunmore secured the ball, kicked over the top and won a foot race to score a last gasp try. Mark Musgrave converted.

Bellwood, Dawson and Hepworth stood out, while there were also big games from Matty Richardson, on debut, and Josh Mann.

Heworth ARLC 'A' were defeated 28-18 at Huddersfield YMCA in group two.

Heworth produced a great defensive performance in the first 30 minutes to keep their hosts at bay.

The deadlock was broken and a poor finish to the half saw them concede three tries and two conversions to trail 16-0 at half-time.

The Villagers opened the second period well to get on the scoreboard with a good try from centre Joe Deighton, to which he added a touchline conversion.

Both sides continued to trade points with YMCA just having the edge.

Tries came from scrum-half Max Colley and a 40-metre effort from David Hayes, both of which were goaled by Deighton.

Winger Tom Atkin deservedly took the man of the match for his non-stop efforts and other stand out players were Lewis Hartley, Ross Varley, Joe Richardson and Luke Caddie.

New Earswick had a solid first pre-season hit out as they build towards the start of the Pennine League season despite a 36-6 home defeat to Thornhill Trojans.

Thornhill led 12-6 at half-time, half-back Liam Gargan weaving his way over for the All Blacks try and stand-off Tom Holmes converting.

The visitors added five tries after the break.

The All Blacks man of the match was second rower Reece Blake, backed up well by prop Carl Smith and hooker Jack Carling.
