TIM EASTERBY who saddled three winners at Thirsk last Friday, can add to his course tally this afternoon by taking the opening contest on the seven-race card.

The Great Habton trainer, pictured, saddles Pacngo in the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes and Dave Allan's mount is napped to prevail from a favourable high draw after making a debut full of promise at Ripon a fortnight ago.

The two-year-old daughter of Paco's Boy finished fourth, and did extremely well considering she missed the break and ran green in the early part of the race before realising what was required from half-way and improving to press the leaders entering the final furlong.

The experience of that outing will have greatly benefited Pacngo, who is confidently expected to come out on top this time and enhance Easterby's Thirsk standings.

The £30,000 totepool Thirsk Summer Cup is the feature race on the card and David O'Meara means business by saddling three of the 18 runners. Anderiego may well be the best of the trio. Not only is he more favourably drawn than his stablemates, but he comes into the race with a good win at York last weekend under his belt. He looks sure to go well in a competitive handicap, in which Crowdmania and Farlow are among the dangers.

Trainer Lawrence Mullaney will be praying for rain for Jack Luey in the Collect totepool Winnings At Betfred Shops Handicap.

The seven-year-old, who finished a close-up third at Redcar on his latest start and who looks ready to strike, is at his best on easier ground. Thirsk showers may not earn a thumbs-up from racegoers, but Jack Luey would relish a downpour or two.

Also worth keeping in mind are Mick Easterby's Warlu Way (3-05), who may not have had the race run to suit him when fourth at Beverley last week, and Julie Camacho's progressive Wilde Inspiration (4-15), who has good prospects of lifting the valuable Peter Bell Memorial Handicap.

On the final day of Glorious Goodwood, Richard Fahey and George Chaloner, having bagged two major Saturday handicap prizes in June, go for a third with Alben Star in the £130,00 32Red Stewards' Cup.

The Malton duo were successful with Baccarat in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot and Angel Gabrial in Newcastle's Northumberland Plate. Alben Star has 27 rivals to overcome if he is to add his name to the Musley Bank roll of honour, but he has strong claims. Fourth to Baccarat at Royal Ascot, he subsequently finished fourth in a valuable handicap at the Curragh, where he met all sorts of problems in running and was considered an unlucky loser. He gets the vote in a wide-open race, in which Discussiontofollow and Muthmir represent just two of the live dangers.

Fahey and Chaloner also have a reasonable chance of winning the 32RedSport.com Handicap - the consolation race for those horses which miss the cut in the Stewards' Cup - with El Viento. The six-year-old has run some good races in defeat this season and looks well berthed in stall 28 for a crack at this £40,000 pot.

Fahey has booked Ryan Moore to ride Home Cummins in the Telegraph Nursery Handicap over seven furlongs.

The juvenile, runner-up at York on her debut, went one better at Redcar next time and is a filly of above average potential. She should go well, despite having to shoulder top weight in her first handicap.

The Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes, the Group 1 showpiece, on the Goodwood programme, offers John Gosden the chance to follow-up his win last year with 20-1 shot Winsili.

Gosden has two of seven runners today and Sultanina, winner of two of her three starts and third in the Lancashire Oaks last time at Haydock, is preferred to Eastern Belle. Just don't expect to get 20-1 this time about William Buick's mount.
