YORKSHIRE Over-50s beat Cambridgeshire by 81 runs at Acomb to reach the ECB 50+ County Championship quarter-finals.

The Tykes will now face Essex in the last eight, after the 2013 losing finalists beat Oxfordshire by five wickets with two overs to spare.

Yorkshire and Essex are joined in the quarters by Kent, Lancashire, Warwickshire, Durham, Hampshire and Surrey.

White Rose skipper Steve Wales said: "The sides we play now are all quality cricketers. On the day, it's about how you perform.

"If Essex turn up and take it away from us, we'll have to to rise to it. We're a hardworking outfit and we're determined to give it a very good go. We want to win the whole thing still. I'll back Yorkshire."

The winner of the Yorkshire v Essex encounter, to be played on Sunday, August 10 at a venue yet to be confirmed, will face either Hampshire or Kent in the semi-finals.

In the last 16, Cambridgeshire won the toss and put Yorkshire into bat, claiming the wicket of Acomb's Richard Sykes stumped for two.

Then Dunnington's Kevin Bradley and Pickering's Colin Frank rattled away to take the score from 21-1 to 133-1 before Bradley was caught on 76.

The third wicket went down with the score on 162 before Acomb's Neil Grant made a quick-fire 35, shooting Yorkshire to 219-4 before Frank's innings came to an end on 74.

Wales fell lbw for 13as Yorkshire closed on a strong 286-6.

Opener Nigel Gadsby hit 54 and Paul Slaley made 62 for Cambridgeshire, but the visitors were reduced to 146-7 and their innings closed on 205-8.

Captain Wales said: "Colin Frank batted very well against Cambridgeshire. If he was to bat for 45 overs then he would get a double-century.

"Richard Sykes was unlucky to be stumped for two. If he doesn't score now, he'll score big in the next round."
