RISING City of York Athletic Club sprint star Tom Somers powered into the final of the 200 metres at the IAAF World Junior Championships with a new personal best time.
The 17-year-old, who won his heat in a best of 20.60 seconds in the USA last night, cruised to victory in his semi-final in the early hours of today, clocking 20.37 seconds.
The Yearsley-based Queen Ethelburga's College student, who is coached by City of York's Geoff Barraclough, was the second fastest qualifier for the final in Eugene, Oregon.
The final is scheduled for 4.10am UK time tomorrow.
