PETE LEE and Steve Bingham, of Team Enterprise, got their timing just right to sail to a clear win in the Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club’s annual Roundabout Race on the River Ouse at Naburn, writes Matthew Graves.

The race started with virtually no wind in the first hour and most of the fleet set off choosing to sail upstream, with two teams attacking the river.

Neil Botham, who was representing Team Streaker, went upstream and posted the time to beat of one hour, 57 minutes and 33 seconds.

Larry Gray and Keith Cooper, of Team Enterprise, and Lee and Bingham held back, waiting for a rain storm to pass.

When it cleared and a gentle breeze had set in, they began their fightback.

Gray and Cooper took the initiative to set sail and then posted the new lead time, pipping Botham to the lead spot, in a time of 1:57-09.

Their efforts were undone by the impeccable timing of Lee and Bingham who, despite being the last team to finish the time trial, were confirmed to have won comfortably in a time of 1:32-14.

Fourth place went to Peter Rawson and Fran Hyett, of Team Enterprise, in a time of 2:08-55.

Ian and Margaret Purkis, of Team National 12, claimed fifth place, posting a respectable time of 2:53-24.
