YORK surrendered their unbeaten record in division one of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League to reigning champions Poppleton.

York still lead on games difference after a defeat which saw Poppleton’s unbeaten Nick and Rebecca Turnbull win 31 games, including a rare 12-0.

Fulford’s Sean Evans and Eleanor Bradshaw were also in winning form as they ensured their team stayed in third place with a win at David Lloyd.

Paul Birch and Jo Craven led Dunnington to a much needed win to stay well clear of the relegation area, leaving beaten side Rufforth in trouble.

Wetherby need only one more point from their remaining four fixtures to capture the division two title after other results went their way. Wigginton dented Bubwith’s aspirations as Matt Waudby and Sarah Blacker won 31 games to seal the victory and move into second place.

Fulford and Poppleton shared the points and Fulford moved into third place.

Relegation is still wide open after York gained a much needed victory ahead of a difficult run-in against the top teams.

There was no change in division three as Zak Los and Peggy Padfield ensured second-placed Sutton-on-Derwent took the points against Dunnington.

Third-placed Cliffe got the better of Copmanthorpe, and James Field and Laura Rhodes led Bishopthorpe to a win over Stillington.

Appleton Roebuck are one of only four teams still unbeaten and need one more point to secure promotion after a narrow win at David Lloyd in division four.

Sherburn are still their closest rivals, with Tristan Gretton and Sue Hudson another couple to win 31 games in a victory at Fulford.

York stayed top of division five after top scorers Dave Duffy and Siobhan Gilfillan steered them to a win against promotion rivals Bishopthorpe. Bishopthorpe kept their promotion hopes alive with a win at second-placed Riccall. They are one point behind but with a game in hand.

Stamford Bridge lead division six by two points after they used home advantage to beat Alne. However, three days later they lost the reverse fixture.
