CLIFFE edged past Wigginton 58-50 in division three of the Fulford Ladies Invitational Tennis League to climb to the top of the table.

Rufforth remain third after beating Boston Spa 2, while Wistow moved off the foot of the table after a draw with fourth-placed Rowntree Park.

Elizabeth Mallory and Pam Campbell re-formed their successful partnership for the first time this season in division two to take almost half of Fulford 2’s games at Castlegarth 2.

It was not enough as the Wetherby club came out 65-43 winners, leaving Fulford’s second team propping up the table along with Knaresborough, who were comprehensively beaten by Starbeck. Bishopthorpe remain in second place after defeating Dunnington 55-53.

In division four, Riccall’s victory over Tollerton saw them leap-frog Sutton and Poppleton to top the table.

Sutton suffered a heavy defeat to David Lloyd 2 and Fulford 3 beat Knaresborough, but placings in the lower half of the table remain the same.

The top two met in division five and leaders New Earswick defeated second-placed Stamford Bridge 59-49 to hold on to top position. Cawood scored a heavy victory against Cop 3 to remain in third.

Pocklington’s continued fight for survival in division one was aided by a 65-43 victory over fellow strugglers David Lloyd to keep them out of the relegation zone on games difference.

York 2 held their position in mid-table after a close-fought 55-53 victory against Poppleton.

Bubwith are on the edge of promotion from division six after a resounding 75-33 victory over Wigginton 2.
