WOODHOUSE Grange Cricket Club, based in Sutton-on-Derwent, won two Evening Cup competitions in the space of three days.

The second team beat Stockton & Hopgrove in the final of the York Junior Charity Cup at Osbaldwick CC, while the first team picked up the Sawkill Cup for the fourth year running, beating Dunnington at Stamford Bridge.

The second team totalled 143-7 in 16 eight-ball overs with contributions from five batsmen.

Jon Bean made 18, Marcus Smith 21, Matthew Durkin 21, Luke Cattle 32 not out, while Matthew Shepherd’s 23 contained two huge sixes.

In reply, a very game Stockton & Hopgrove could not deal with the pace of Scott Shepherd, who claimed 5-16 and the man of the match trophy. He was well supported by 15-year-olds James Hattee and Tom Stubley, who each took two wickets, while Hattee also contributed a stunning catch in Stockton’s 40 all out in 10.1 overs.

The senior Grange ranks faced a depleted Dunnington in the Sawkill Cup final and ran up an imposing 188-4.

Chris Bilton racked up 64 off 36 balls which won him the man of the match trophy. He was well supported by brother Andrew (31), Nick Hadfield (27), Chris Suddaby (25no) and Steve Burdett (27no).

Despite Adam Iyer’s 37 Dunnington were never in contention and 3-10 from Suddaby saw them reduced to 101-7.
