YORK City will head home this weekend with manager Nigel Worthington hailing their Scottish pre-season trip a success.

The Minstermen beat Raith Rovers 4-0 on Tuesday and take on St Johnstone tomorrow before returning south on Sunday, with Worthington pleased by the purpose served by their Stirling University training base and Airth Castle Hotel facilities.

“The emphasis up here has been on team shape and working on that in different areas of the park," he said.

“The players are working very hard and are taking information on board. We have got to start where we left off last season with our pressing and energy and I still think we can pass the ball better at times and we are really working on making ourselves better in that respect.

“There was a bit of down time on Wednesday morning after the game when the players spent a bit of time in the pool, Jacuzzi or sauna but, apart from that, we have been here to work and it’s been quite intense.”

Elsewhere, defender Laurence Wilson has joined City's League Two rivals Morecambe after being released by Accrington.
