NEW Earswick maintained their unbeaten run at the top of division five in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League with a resounding victory over Copmanthorpe 3.

Maz Broadbent and Lisa Debenham contributed 28 games for the leaders.

Stamford Bridge remain in second place after a 63-45 defeat of Dunnington, while Cawood climbed the table with a 68-40 win against Heworth.

Things remain tight at the top of division one as four clubs now share the lead on 12 points.

The top three - York 1, Dunnington 1 and Poppleton1 - all recorded victories over York 2, David Lloyd 1 and Boston Spa respectively.

However, Castlegarth 1 jumped into top spot, above the leading pack on games difference, after achieving wins in both of their weekend games. Angela Crossley and Jo Coverdale top scored in both matches.

Division six leaders Bubwith had the weekend’s top scorers, with two of their couples - Louise Smith and Anna Airaksinen, and Julia Barber and Ann Wottge - bagging 35 games in a demolition of Dunnington 4.

In-form Wigginton beat second-placed Wilberfoss, while David Lloyd 3 edged out Appleton Roebuck 56-52 in the closest match of the weekend.

Fulford 1, the league’s top games scorers, continue to dominate in division two, upholding their 100 per cent record with a 76-32 win over Castlegarth 2.

Lisa Jacob and Katie Draper notched 30 games in Starbeck’s defeat of Fulford 2. Bishopthorpe continued to press, beating Pocklington aided by 30 games from Fran Critchley and Ellie Page.
