TIGER LILLY, a winner at Thirsk on her racecourse debut and a creditable fourth at York last month, crosses the Pennines for her third career outing this afternoon and has every chance of gaining her second success.

Although the Ritec Clearshield Eco-Systems Handicap boasts £25,000 in prize money, for some reason this one-and-three-quarter- miles contest has attracted only four runners, including Tiger Lilly, who carries the well-known colours of Yorkshire owner Sir Robert Ogden.

Trained by Richard Fahey, who sent out Baccarat to win for Ogden in last month's Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot, Tiger Lilly made a bright start to her career at Thirsk and lost no caste in defeat when fourth to Pearl Castle in the Queen Mother's Cup Ladies' Handicap on Knavesmire nearly three weeks ago.

Tomorrow's step up from a mile and a half should suit Tiger Lilly, who may be able to lift this valuable prize by beating her three rivals. Tony Hamilton has the mount.

Fahey saddles two of the six runners in the Tuffx Glass Novice Stakes and preference has to be for Lieutenant Kaffee, who is already a winner, over the newcomer Henrytheaeroplane.

The mount of Paul Hanagan, Lieutenant Kaffee made a winning debut at Nottingham over six furlongs. This is a tougher race, but the extra furlong is likely to bring out more improvement in the Malton youngster.

Hanagan also boasts a winning chance on Ejadah in the FGI Tangerine Fillies' Handicap. Roger Varian's three-year-old should benefit from the drop back to a mile after running well over ten furlongs on her reappearance at Nottingham three weeks ago.

Dutch Connection should go well in the Distinction Doors Maiden Stakes.

The Dutch Art colt shaped well to finish a close-up third at Salisbury on his debut and should be a better proposition now with that experience under his belt.

At Newbury's evening meeting, nap selection Tyfos will be hard to beat in the opening Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Apprentice Handicap.

Brian Baugh's sprinter was most impressive when winning a ladies' race at Leicester recently, when ridden by Serena Brotherton. He has a 6lb penalty to carry here, which will make life more difficult for him, but he looks to be at the top of his game at present and it is to his advantage that he has won previously over this course and distance.

Second Step makes plenty of appeal in the ABN Amro Handicap.

The Luca Cumani-trained gelding, who showed definite signs of ability in his one and only juvenile outing last year, started this season with a win in maiden company over ten furlongs on this course.

He now steps up to a mile and a half for his handicap debut and may not be unfairly treated off a mark of 85. Andrea Atzeni has the mount.

Frangipanni seemed to appreciate the step up to seven furlongs when scoring cosily at Chepstow last week.

She tackles the same distance in the Betfair Fillies' Handicap and, with Richard Hughes taking the mount on Roger Charlton's charge, she is fancied to shrug off a 6lb penalty.
